May 24, 2019 The Layers of Fear 2 guide is a compendium of knowledge about this mysterious horror game. From our publication you will learn how to solve all the puzzles. You will also find here an exact walkthrough.
Though it tends to be obvious when you're being presented with an important choice, it may be less clear to figure out exactly which path you're heading down in the five-hour horror story. If you want to be sure you get the ending you want (and don't mind spoilers), use our guide to unlock your favorite - or even all three of them for you achievement and trophy hunters.Determining FactorsThere are four instances of player choice that will determine which ending you earn by the time the credits roll on Bloober Team's twisted thriller. They appear one in each chapter for the first four acts, while the fifth and final act bears the fruit of your decision tree. These moments are:. Mannequin shooting in Act I. Man versus dog fight for food in Act II. Lily walking the plank of the pirate ship in Act III.
The flooded hallway on fire in Act IVCollectively, how you act in these four moments will lead you irreversibly down a path toward the Flame, the Forever, or the Formless ending. Let's take it one finale at a time. The Flame EndingTo earn the Flame ending, you must follow the director's orders at each of the above moments.
Because the game is so deliberately confusing, it may be less than totally clear what he always wants you to do.In this case, to earn the Flame ending, you'll want to:. Shoot the mannequin on the right.
Wrestle the food away from the dog. Shoot the two puppets for a total of three times. Not shoot Lily on the plank. Run away from the flames in the hallwayShowing this level of obedience throughout Layers of Fear 2 will net you the 'bad' ending to the game. The Forever EndingConsidered the 'good' ending, earning Forever simply requires you to make the opposite choice in ech of the four crucial binary decision moments.
That means you'll want to. Shoot the mannequin on the left. Let the dog have the food. Shoot Lily off the plank. Step into the flames at the end of the hallwayDoing all four of these will net the Forever ending in Layers of Fear 2.
The Formless EndingThe Formless ending is considered the 'true' ending by some fans early into the game's life span, - though it's a wonderfully weird story so give us time to sort out the details of this deliberate mess.To earn this ending, you must split your four decisions, siding with the director twice and disobeying him twice. It doesn't matter which two you choose to reject the director's instructions, just make sure you do it twice and only twice. Doing this will net you the Formless ending, wherein your character seems to permanently lose their mind over the struggle as a haunted actor.
Achievement/Trophy Hunters Take NoteIf you don't care which ending you get and you're strictly in it for the achievements or trophies, note that you can earn all offsetting decision achievements/trophies in one playthrough, though the final ending achievements/trophies will remain locked, save for the one you ultimately earn. How to earn both achievements each time is simple: As soon as you make your choice, no matter which way you go, pause the game and reload your checkpoint. Generously, the last autosave comes usually just a minute or two before your decision-making moment again, letting you go one way, pop the achievement/trophy, then quickly go back in and earn the other option.Of course, if you're in it for the platinum or achievement list completion, you'll need to play it legitimately three times anyway.Want more on? Bloober Team's much-anticipated horror sequel, Layers of Fear 2, is out today and ready to boggle your mind once again.
We've got our full review ready for your consideration, but if you've already dived into the game's psychedelic horrors, you'll want to consider our guides to help navigate the labyrinthine ship. In this guide, we'll be explaining the game's recurring projector screen puzzles.
There are three instances of projector screen puzzles you'll encounter in the 4-5 hour story mode, and each one plays out a bit differently, so use our guide to help get through to the other side.
The First Projector
The first instance of the projector puzzle is relatively straightforward and sets the rules, so to speak, for how players should react to these movie screens. When you enter the room, approach the projector and notice you can manipulate which frame is shown on screen.
What you'll want to do is carefully manipulate the movie shown on screen, turning the projector dial slowly until you stop at the frame where a door appears on the screen.
It looks like a door in the movie, but walk up to it and this movie door will transform into a functional door for the player character. Walk through it to advance the story. You've done it! Easy enough, right? Well, they get trickier.
The Second Projector
The second instance of this puzzle type is the most involved, for sure. It begins the same. Approach the projector sitting in the middle of the room and begin to manipulate the dial, scanning the movie on screen frame by frame. The magical door you seek will not so easily manifest this time, however. Block world games like minecraft.
What you'll need to do is tweak the dial backwards until you stop on the frame with the pictures of keys all over the screen. Leave it there and approach the screen. A key should manifest on the ground in front of you. Pick it up to add it to your inventory and return to the projector.
Begin to dial again, this time forward until you find the door image again. This next step may not be mandatory but do it like us anyway, just to be safe. Now when you approach the screen again, key at the ready and door showing on screen, you may think you're done, but nope. The knob falls off and dissipates into thin air. Take it as a clue that there's still one more step.
Return to the projector, and tweak it in reverse again (to the left). The door should stay there, frame by frame, and eventually it'll settle into its correct position on a background full of door handle images like that pictured above.
Now you can walk back to the screen, use the key on the magic movie door, and advance to the next part of the story.
The Third Projector
The final projector puzzle appears late in the game in an unforgettable theater cloaked in red light. This one isn't as complex as the second projector, but it does hide its solution a bit more.
It mostly plays out like the first projector puzzle. You need to tweak the frames using the dial until you see the object on screen you need. That should be it, only this time the object is hardly there. Look closely, though, and you'll catch a hazy outline of somethingif you're going slow enough. When it's there, approach the screen.
If you did, it will turn into a small lighthouse and instantly transport you to the next part of the game. This one is a bit annoying because it feels more like trial and error than a cleverly designed enigma like so much else seen in the game, but hopefully our guide has helped make it easy.
